What Does "No Name" Mean?
When a call displays "No Name" on the recipient’s phone, it usually means the caller ID name (CNAM) has not been configured, verified, or updated. Although the phone number may appear correctly, the caller’s business or personal name is not displayed.
Common Causes
1. Caller ID Name Is Not Configured
The phone number may not have a caller ID name assigned in Zoom Phone.
2. Recent Number Assignment or Porting
If the number was recently purchased or ported to Zoom Phone, the caller ID database may not have updated yet.
3. Outbound Caller ID Settings
The user may be using a different outbound caller ID number than expected.
4. Carrier Database Delay
Even after Zoom updates the caller ID, mobile carriers may take several days to refresh their CNAM databases.
5. Number Is Not Registered for CNAM
Some phone numbers are not automatically registered with a Caller Name (CNAM).
How to Fix It
Step 1: Verify Caller ID Settings
Log in to the Zoom Admin Portal and navigate to:
Phone System Management → Users & Rooms → Select User → Caller ID
Confirm that the correct outbound phone number is selected.
Step 2: Update the Caller ID Name
If your Zoom Phone plan supports CNAM updates, enter the business or company name exactly as it should appear when making outbound calls.
Step 3: Check the Assigned Phone Number
Verify that the correct phone number is assigned to the user and is being used for outbound calls.
Step 4: Test the Caller ID
Place a test call to another mobile phone from a different carrier. Caller ID names may appear differently depending on the receiving carrier.
Step 5: Contact Zoom Support
If the caller ID still shows "No Name" after several business days, contact Zoom Support and request that the Caller ID Name (CNAM) be reviewed or updated for the phone number.
Responsibilities of a Virtual Assistant
As a Virtual Assistant, you may be responsible for:
- Verifying the user’s outbound caller ID settings.
- Confirming the assigned phone number.
- Performing test calls.
- Collecting screenshots or error details.
- Opening a support ticket with Zoom if necessary.
- Following up until the caller ID displays correctly.
Best Practices
- Use the official business name consistently across all phone numbers.
- Allow several business days after a new number purchase or port before expecting the caller name to appear.
- Test calls using different mobile carriers, as caller ID behavior can vary.
- Document any changes made to caller ID settings for future reference.
- Coordinate with Zoom Support if CNAM registration or carrier updates are required.
A properly configured caller ID helps customers recognize your business, improves answer rates, and presents a more professional image during outbound calls.
